Getting Started with Your Provisional Licence
To begin learning to drive, you need to be 17 years old and have a valid provisional driving licence. Here’s how to obtain it:
- Complete a D1 Form: Get the form from the Post Office and send it to the DVLA (DVLNI in Northern Ireland).
- Provide Identification: Include your passport or birth certificate and a passport-sized photo as ID.
- Apply Online: If you live in England, Scotland, or Wales, you can also apply for your provisional licence online. Be aware that you may still need to send additional documentation if you do not meet all the online criteria.
You can apply for your provisional licence up to three months before your 17th birthday, allowing you to book your first lesson for the big day!
